Project title: Higher Education and Sustainable Development through Religious Tourism
Religious routes and pilgrimages have long been recognized for their contribution to regional development. Recent studies emphasize the need to leverage religious heritage inclusively and technologically to foster sustainable growth, economic development, and tourism.
The SacredTravels4Growth project addresses existing gaps in higher education curricula by connecting the needs of the tourism industry, particularly in religious and cultural tourism—with academic preparation.
Key Objectives:
1. Adapt European models of religious tourism and higher education to train future professionals in inclusion, accessibility, and diversity.
2. Train educators and practitioners in advanced religious tourism practices and integrate them into higher education.
3. Develop or revise curricula to align with labor market needs in religious and cultural tourism.
4. Create or enhance laboratory infrastructure to support training and research.
5. Design educational resources, including a manual and five MOOCs, to support curriculum reform.
